Pat Wolberg
Pat Wolberg serves as Brown County’s Director of Information Technology, bringing more than 35 years of experience in technology, systems engineering, and leadership.
His career began in the U.S. Air Force as a Communications Computer System Programmer. His first assignment at Brooks AFB in San Antonio involved working on the Civilian Payroll System and developing the Armstrong Laboratory Management Information System (ALMIS)—the Air Force’s first secure messaging platform, which functioned much like today’s email to connect military bases across secure networks.
He later served with the 2nd Space Operations Squadron in Colorado Springs, where he programmed and performed end-to-end testing on the Global Positioning System (GPS). Following his military service, Pat continued supporting space operations with Infinity Systems Engineering, contributing to both Lockheed Martin and Boeing satellite programs. His work spanned system and satellite engineering, from Launch and Early Orbit (LEO) through end-of-life testing for GPS satellites.
Transitioning to civilian leadership roles, Pat has held positions in IT management and systems engineering. Today, as Brown County’s IT Director, he oversees critical countywide technology infrastructure supporting essential services including the 911 Center, Jail, Juvenile Detention Center, State’s Attorney, Public Defender, Sheriff’s Office, and more.
Beyond his county role, Pat is active in cybersecurity at the state and regional level. He is a member of both the South Dakota Cybersecurity Board and the Regional Cybersecurity Board, has served as a panelist and moderator at the 2024 and 2025 South Cybersecurity Summits in Pierre, and was a featured speaker at the Regional Cybersecurity Summit in Cheyenne, WY.
In 2024, Pat provided testimony on behalf of SD Senator Casey Crabtree in support of SB 187, helping to secure $7 million in funding (approved by an 8–1 vote) to establish a statewide cybersecurity initiative for counties and municipalities. He now serves on the SecureSD Advisory Council, helping to set priorities and guide the allocation of SB 187 funding.
