Microsoft TechSpark Community Engagement Manager for Southern Virginia
Jeremy Satterfield is the Microsoft TechSpark Community Engagement Manager for Southern Virginia. A lifelong resident of Southern Virginia, he completed his K–12 education in Halifax County and earned his bachelor’s degree from Longwood University.
Immediately after college, Jeremy spent three years teaching high school marketing courses at Bluestone High School in Mecklenburg County. Although education was not his intended career path, the experience gave him valuable insight into the education process from the other side of the desk.
After leaving education, Jeremy joined his local community-owned, nonprofit hospital as a community outreach representative. This role allowed him to expand his professional network beyond the education field and become immersed in the complexities of healthcare in rural communities.
After six years in healthcare, Jeremy accepted a position with Mid-Atlantic Broadband, a growing middle-mile provider in Southern Virginia. Although telecommunications was a new field for him, he was able to build new relationships while maintaining connections from his time in education and healthcare. His experience in telecommunications also highlighted the disparities between rural and urban communities.
Jeremy’s experiences in education, healthcare, and telecommunications have strengthened his commitment to bridging gaps and expanding opportunities in rural communities. As a father of three, he has a personal interest in creating opportunities in rural Virginia for the next generation. His children, Kylie, Kameron, and Layne, have all attended Halifax County Public Schools, where his wife, Kristy, is a third-grade teacher.
Outside of work, Jeremy has coached Kylie’s travel softball team and Layne’s recreation and travel baseball teams. He has also served on various boards throughout the region, including chambers of commerce, industrial development authorities, and educational foundations. A proponent of lifelong learning, Jeremy earned a Certificate of Leadership from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.

Rural communities have always had to build with what they have and fight to keep what matters. Jeremy Satterfield speaks to that experience directly, grounded in his own roots in rural Virginia and shaped by the communities he continues to work alongside.
This keynote looks at how AI is being worked into everyday systems across education, healthcare, and connectivity through TechSpark programs. Not as a full reset, but as part of ongoing efforts to create opportunity and stability. It’s a view of adoption that’s shaped by place, by people, and by the long-term goal of making it possible for more individuals to stay, grow, and contribute where they are.
