Dr. Nathan Skelley is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, Vice Chair of the Orthopaedic Department at Sanford Health, and Medical Director and Head Team Surgeon for the University of South Dakota Coyotes. In addition to his clinical practice, he serves as an educator, researcher, and faculty member dedicated to advancing the future of healthcare. He was recently selected as a 2026 Traveling Fellow by the Arthroscopy Association of North America, reflecting his commitment to advancing orthopaedic care through collaboration, education, and innovation.
Dr. Skelley is widely recognized for his work in healthcare innovation, having contributed to the development of numerous medical technologies and invention disclosures focused on improving patient care and surgical outcomes. His work includes novel applications of 3D printing, orthopaedic surgical technologies, and other emerging healthcare innovations, including the development of a low-cost 3D-printed external fixation system designed to expand access to fracture care in resource-constrained settings. He was recognized with the Sanford Health Innovator Award for his contributions to innovation across the health system. As a surgeon, educator, inventor, and researcher, he brings a unique perspective on the intersection of medicine, technology, innovation, and leadership.
